The Adventures of Emily and Isabel: First Trip

Well, we have survived our first big trip. It was almost canceled, since little Isabel had a slight fever the day of the trip. Luckily, it went away and we were free to go. (Which made a tearful Meme much happier!)

We packed up Isabel and took her to her grandparents in Buies Creek. Lucky for us, she is still at the age where she sleeps in the car. We timed the way there perfectly and only stopped for one feeding. Meme was awake at 1:30a when we got there to take over that feeding.
Can I tell you what the car looked like? It was filled to the brim with everything a 5 week old needs. It far surpassed what her parents needed. Not to mention, I had to be a great daughter-in-law and bring a basket full of dirty clothes. Just didn't get a chance to do laundry before we left.

Anyhoo, I set up a little station in the back for me and Izzy. I had the diaper bag, boppy, sleeper lamb (sound machine), cooler, pump and magazines. It was quite a sight to see me pumping in the back of the car. You never feared bumps in the road until you are hooked up to bottles of milk. Needless to say, my talent for efficiency was well at work.

Isabel took to her new surroundings really well. Her mom did too, especially when all the family wanted to love on Izzy and offered to do some feedings. (No one offered to pump though, so Bessie was still in business.)

Isabel got to meet her great-grandmother, Mema. She also got to hangout with her cousins and other extended family. Grandpa had no problem showing her off to the church family as well. We didn't actually make it to church, but we got to the lunch after the service! That is progress. I tell ya, we can't get out of the house before 11a. Its impossible...

As for Isabel, she was so alert and loved playing with her family. She is smiling like a champ and can melt your heart with it. She also has begun reaching for your face and as always, cuddles right up to you. Grandpa fell in love all over again and the "bear chair" was well in use with the two of them. Gracie and Riley have unanimously voted to induct Isabel into the Bear Club - she growls just right. She and her baby cousin Josh are excited about joining such an exclusive group.
